The development and acceptance of standards have always been vital in any IT market, in order for mass implementation and deployments to occur.

In the security space, for enabling support for Single Sign On, SAML 2.0 has evolved in the de facto standard protocol.

OpenID has also emerged as a growing standard gaining popularity and acceptance in the marketplace.

Google Apps is the fastest growing platform of choice for organizations and users throughout the world striving to derive personal productivity and collaboration benefits.

As more and more systems are deployed in organizations, and among business partners, providing SSO support among these many disparate systems is critical.

Many organizations must plan to provide support for a SAML 2.0 based Single Sign On solution for Google Apps, which also supports SSO while complying with the OpenID protocol.

A recent client implemented an innovative SAML 2.0 use case using the EasyConnect SAML product solution from SSO Easy.

The case study of the customer’s use case involves users in their organization leveraging their Google Apps login credentials to gain access to Salesforce, leveraging OpenID.

Users first gain access to Google Apps using their Google Apps ID and Password.  In this instance, Google Apps is essentially acting as the Identity Provider (IDP) in the SAML 2.0 implementation.

Once the Single Sign On (SSO) connection to Google Apps has been enabled, the OpenID capability in the EasyConnect product from SSO Easy is enabled to provide seamless SSO access to Salesforce.
